Andrew from 123Systems has sent me another interesting offer for the NEOVPS readers. Instead of discount on pricing, they are now offering buy any Linux VPS, get a Linux-256-SolusVM for free. So their cheapest virtual server package costs $6.95/month, and comes with
- 256MB guaranteed/512MB burstable memory
- 10GB storage
- 500GB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ/SolusVM
By using promo code ONE256FREE, you will get another VPS for free! Here are some terms and conditions
- You only get a Linux-256-SolusVM for free, no matter whichever size you purchased.
- Promo code must be entered to get your free server.
- Free server remains free for as long as you keep the main server.
- Offer expires on 11 July 2010.
- New sign up only.
We actually had some 2-for-1 offers before. They are good for staging server vs. production server. Or web server + DB server. Or production + DR. Or load balancer between the two. The use are endless. A tough call though to choose between this or their other exclusive offer (which is cheaper but requires yearly payment).

Tom from 2Host has written me about their latest plan upgrade and exclusive promo code for the Low End Box readers. Use LEB10TB on their low end plans to get 10% off recurring discount. Their cheapest plan is now $4.04/month and it comes with
- 128MB memory/256MB swap
- 5GB storage
- 10TB/month data transfer
- Xen/SolusVM
Servers are located in Asheville NC. I think the most notable change is that for all VPS hosting plans they now come with 10 fricking terabytes per month of data transfer. My first server, an old Linux box set up at home connecting to the Internet via 33.6k dial up modem, served average 200MB/month. Okay that’s more than a decade ago, but how have we advanced that a humble low end Xen box comes with 10TB of data.
Overselling?! I heard ya! But like all service based industry overselling should be taken for granted. 128MB is probably good to run a blog or two using 25GB/month, unless you also self-host video or large images. Not too sure what the application will be other than sharing of you-know-what. In fact, doing 10TB/month means 3.86MB/sec (or 30.9Mbps) — I wonder whether hard drives on a VPS host can sustain this kind of read if you are doing lots of file sharing.
Anyway. Here is a question throwing back to the community — what would you do with 10TB/month? Rule is “must be legal”

Via this WHT offer. Cohoster is a Netherlands based company, whose domain was just registered 2 months ago. They indeed have a simple web site, but they are also offering VMWare based virtual server hosting, which has been rare. They are offering WHT members 20% discount using promo code WHT20OFF. Their Netherlands based VPS is now $6.40/month and comes with
- 128MB memory
- 5GB storage
- 50GB/month data transfer
- VMWare/ESX
One thing about VMWare solution is that it’s hardware emulation thus you can load up non-Linux operating systems such as FreeBSD or Windows. They are also offering US based ESX hosting for $4/month with the same promo code but at an unknown location.

Paul from Webangel.ie wrote to me again regarding to their plan changes. Their “micro” Xen VPS package is now half-priced, dropped to €9/6 months (USD$1.90/month). The spec has also been slightly altered, and now you get
- 64MB memory
- 2GB storage
- 50GB/month data transfer
- Xen
Servers are in Germany. It is now one of the cheapest VPS package around — probably the cheapest Xen provider around?! I noted that under the list of Linux distributions available, NetBSD was listed. Although it probably shouldn’t qualify as a Linux distro, but now we have a very low cost xBSD provider.

This offer is from Kerplunc Inc, the same company that brought us SuperBytes, TinyVPS and FibreFirefly — $5/month Xen VPS under the brand of TinyVPS.
Servers are can be host in 4 location, including UK,CA,US,DE. Interestingly it uses KSplice which allows admins to update and patch Linux kernel without rebooting — sometihng hosting providers ought to consider to maximise the uptime (although at a cost).

VPSEU is an UK company that has its domain registered in December 2009 (with privacy protection, argh!) and has its servers in Frankfurt Germany (which I guess where “EU” in its domain name came from). €8.57/month (USD $10.93).
- 256MB memory + 768MB burstable memory (for OpenVZ)
- 15GB storage
- 100GB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ or Xen + SolusVM
Good that Xen or OpenVZ of the same spec are at the same price.
But if you order Annually OpenVZ is €7.71/M but Xen is €7.14/M

Mark from VirtuallyDedicated emailed me about their current East Coast data centre special. For their “Cloud Servers” in Scranton PA the current promotion sells the cheapest plan for $6/month. You get:
- 384MB guaranteed memory
- 20GB storage
- 300GB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ
The very term of “cloud servers” is very confusing. However with their setup, your entire volume is mirrored on another server which allows fail over if the physical server dies. Prepayment of 3 months is required.
VIRTUAL SERVER PACKAGE INFORMATION

VPSWow! is currently running their Neon OpenVZ is now $7.95/month, and you get
- 128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory
- 10GB storage
- 50GB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ
Servers are with Limestone Networks in Dallas TX. UK based business. Domain has been registered for nearly two years, but its associated hosting sites (OpenSourceHostingSolutions, SiteRollout, etc) have been registered for a lot longer so I guess it’s more established.
Linux OpenVZ VPS
If you are looking for a low cost VPS then an OpenVZ VPS would be suitable. With an OpenVZ VPS, you get running an instance of a virtual environment sharing the same server node hardware but you get full root access. You also have guaranteed RAM which is reserved for your VPS, plus burstable RAM which can be used only if available on the server. Choose an OpenVZ for affordability and if you know your memory needs and can keep within your memory limits.
