Mark from VirtuallyDedicated emailed me about their current East Coast data centre special. For their “Cloud Servers” in Scranton PA the current promotion sells the cheapest plan for $6/month. You get:
- 384MB guaranteed memory
- 20GB storage
- 300GB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ
The very term of “cloud servers” is very confusing. However with their setup, your entire volume is mirrored on another server which allows fail over if the physical server dies. Prepayment of 3 months is required.

EchoServers has released their new plans and specs for their line up of virtual servers. The price tag of their standard package is still the same — $5.99/month, but with updated specifications:
- 192MB guaranteed/384MB burstable memory
- 5GB storage
- 300GB/month data transfer
- 2 IP addresses
- OpenVZ/HyperVM
Servers are hosted in Chicago with Equinix.
Why EchoServers?
All Echoservers virtual private servers are guaranteed the full resources listed below. We also include HyperVM Control Panel, full root access and a full list of OS options.
Unlike all of our competitors our servers are not over-sold. Our business model is designed to load a VPS node to 100% of it’s effective capacity and no higher. It is our goal to provide our customers with the best service and highest quality VPSes possible. If you enjoy your VPS, you’ll tell others about us, and that is how we make money, not through overloading VPS nodes.

Do check out the ToS on what you can host on their servers. The domain (QuickWeb.co.nz) is relatively new (registered back in July 2009) and there still exists quite a few errors on their website (“Linux Zen based VPS” at the bottom of What is a VPS?. Argh!) Otherwise it has shown the company number and GST number on their website to show that they are indeed legitimate.

RAM Host is offering their Micro VPS for $2.99 per month.
- 80MB guaranteed / 128MB burstable memory
- 2GB storage
- 50GB/month data transfer
- OpenVZ + In-House Control Panel (RAM CP)
- Arch, CentOS, Debian, Fedora, Gentoo, Slackware, OpenSUSE, Ubuntu
It’s nice to see that they have a demo of their in-house built control panel (and explicitly stated that they are not using HyperVM). RAMCP is very functional (start/stop/restart VM, reload OS, download backups, basic stats) although not pretty (who cares at $2.99/month!) The servers are in Kanas City MO with Level 3, Cogent, AFS and KCIX connectivity. Their website is powered by RAM-CMS written by the owner — yes a developer-run provider which is always a good sign.
RAM Host is now offering unmanaged virtual dedicated servers – limited semi-management (hand-holding) is also included.
All of our VPS servers are not oversold and we can prove it – you will get predictable and constant performance – just like a real dedicated server.
Following are our pre-built plans. If you need something more/less/different, contact us for custom setup configurations and quotes.

There are some hosts that present lots of information on their website to help prospects making decisions. Then there are some who leave important information hidden. HostCadet is probably one of them. Spotted their VPS offer from $5.99/month — which gives you:
- 128MB memory
- 5GB storage
- 100GB/month data transfer
No info on what kind of virtualization technology they use. No words on where they are hosted or test IP (although their website is hosted at Colorado Info Tech). At least they have some very out dated Linux distributions that help you to run your old applications. Debian 3.1 anyone? Or Fedora 6? The glowing server looks pretty hot though.
Although the domain has been registered since 2007, but it appears that the site has only recently (05.2009) been in the current state. So buyers beware.

Here is another £4.99/month VPS, from JSHosts in UK. USD to GBP has been fluctuating over the last few days, and £4.99 is currently at $6.97 — almost the limit of our “low end” virtual box criteria. Well. Let’s see what you can get for almost 7 bucks USD per month, because next week it might become more expensive.
- 128MB guaranteed/256MB burstable memory
- 10GB storage
- 250GB/month data transfer
- 2 IP addresses
- CentOS/Debian/Fedora Core
From Our Networks page, “JSHosts utilize the RapidSwitch datacentre located in Berkshire, UK.”
Do you need the reliability, flexibility and control that a Dedicated Server can offer? If so then our VPS hosting is ideal for you. A VPS gives you full root SSH access and enables you to install your own software/applications. You can use your VPS to resell hosting, steam media over the internet or set up a small game server. We can provide the popular cPanel and DirectAdmin control panels for a small fee when you order.
Please note: All VPS’s are unmanaged. We offer cPanel and DirectAdmin control panels to help make your server administration easier.
