Quite a bit of restriction to combat fraud, which includes 1 special per client, telephone validation, cell/mobile phone validation with SMS, SMTP port blocked by default & needs explicit permission to unblock, you have to email to order. Any Linux distro other than CentOS might also need to provide URL to ISO for installation. Does not sound “automated” at all.

Interesting offer I guess — I would rather get 1/4 of memory but on instant activation, RAID10 drive, and Linux on Xen by a good provider. But I guess some of you here might be more adventurous

Reason for the promotion is because they have some servers with full disk but free RAM. Servers are in Germany and from their Datacenters page they are in “Falkenstein, Saxony and Frankfurt am Main”. Their website is hosted in Hetzner though. Xen would be PV in this case, and HVM would be a $2 extra (which would be over our $7/month threshold).

Burst.NET’s OpenVZ/vePortal product has often been rebranded/resold by new VPS providers (or provider-wannabes). Now they are getting into the UK market are we expecting to see a flood of BurstNET resellers offering VPS there as well? IRC not allowed (client/server/bots). IPv6 available on all products.

Now you also get to choose from Scranton and Chicago for server location. Server specs are Xeon E5520 with 12GB of memory. They have also updated their website which now looks a bit better than last time — at least without some of the claims. They have also updated their WHOIS info with a valid email address — otherwise you can pretty much take over the entire domain by registering the other expired domain and do the transfer.

Now here’s another promo code from YDGH. Use LEB3 to get 3 months free when you pay for a year. The yearly price is $4.50/month and $54/year. However when I applied the promo code I am getting $30 once off discount which brings down the cost to $24 for the first year. Pretty awesome for test driving this low end VPS. Not sure whether it is intentional or a mistake. The promo code issue has now been fixed.

A 64MB OpenVZ VPS can still do quite a few things with a bit of optimization. We did see the rise of sub-$3 VPS featured here — maybe that will be a new trend?

Servers are with SecuredServers.com in Phoenix AZ. It was a pretty good package when I first reported it 2 weeks ago, and with the discount it just gets a bit cheaper. I have also taken a look at the ToS page this time, and they are allowing IRC connectivity — possibly both server and client.

I wasn’t that impressed with the rough edges last time, so I decided to investigate a bit more. There appears to be 3 users answering the queries on that WHT post — LM-AndrewS the O.P., jtaM the 17yo co-founder and Mr. Obvious the WHT veteran — all from different locations. LM-AndrewS, the Web Designer/Tech Geek guy here, has a pretty impressive website (actually most websites look impressive comparing to LowEndBox.com and he has also designed LinuxManaged under his portfolio. Yes, that LinuxManaged which never had its website launched, and somehow was related to BreezeHost later on.

Maybe just another web hosting opera that needs to be uncovered.

Servers are in Egypt so it might be a very good location for some of us here (not me though, almost 400ms ping). It looks like they have just branched into selling VPS as the ordering pages are still very dedicated-server-centric. I wonder whether you can really buy a $2/month VPS and hook it up with a 320GB SATA drive at $10/month extra, as it is available in the option.

Having the entire telcom company’s 2 name servers on the same network is indeed a bit strange though.

I guess it is rightful to call it the limited edition as the resource is indeed a bit, hmm, limited. However 96MB can still do wonders depending on what you are trying to achieve. You are also getting Xen rather than OpenVZ that’s more common at this ~$3/month price range. There has not been much discussions on their offers in the past though. From the tune of Ben’s email, I guess I can conclude that those are loss leader plans and they are on the stage of growth, which the customer base will hopefully bring in healthy cashflow and profit in the future when more products are introduced. We’ll see, and all the best!
